Our Sustainability Goal:

Writing Towards
a
Greener Future

Caring for the environment has long been a priority for Pilot. Our Begreen range was launched in 2006 to address the need for more eco-friendly products, making Pilot the first manufacturer to offer a line of writing instruments that was made with at least 70% recycled material. All without sacrificing any of the quality writing experience that is synonymous with Pilot.

Join the fight for a greater environmental consciousness, and help us write a greener, brighter future for the world!

How does it Work?

Recycling

Recycling is one of the core components of our eco-friendly approach. Let’s take a look at how waste plastic – plastics from home appliances, factories and recovered from beaches – is saved from the landfills, and given new life as Pilot products.

Recovery

Waste plastic materials from a variety of sources that would otherwise be discarded are collected. These were once items such as compact discs, appliances, car parts and more.

Processing

After sorting into different plastic types (polyethylene, polypropylene, polycarbonate, acrylic, polystyrene etc), the material is crushed into very fine powders, ready for extrusion.

Palletisation

Here, the fine plastic powder is melted and extruded into rods, and then cooled. The now hardened plastic rods are cut into pieces about 3-5mm long, forming plastic pellets.

Moulding

On the production line, the recycled plastic pellets are melted and poured into moulds, forming them into the various parts of Pilot writing instruments.

Assembly

These component parts are then put together, along with other parts such as springs and ink, to form the finished Pilot products.

Trash, Refreshed

B2P Pen

Made from recycled PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate) bottles, B2P’s unique design is reminiscent or an actual mineral water bottle. Refillable with the all-time favourite G2 ink.

Post-consumer recycled plastic bottles are collected

These bottles are fed through a shredder in a recycling plant

The shredded plastic is then melted and cut into small pellets

The pellets are pressed and shaped into Pilot B2P® pens

Leftover scraps from the process are collected and reused in the next round of production

Playing our part

Marine Conservation

Plastic waste in our oceans, seas and rivers is one of the most alarming issues of our time. Not only do 8-12 million tons of plastic enter this vital ecosystem each year, it is estimated that, by volume, there will be more plastic in the sea than fish, by 2050.

Pilot's Super Grip G Ocean features a new "Grid Grip" for enhanced ergonomics and comfort. It's crafted from mostly recycled materials, including marine plastic collected from Japanese shores, supporting our marine environment.
